Village of Sturtevant home damaged following fire; cause remains under investigation

VILLAGE OF STURTEVANT (WITI) -- South Shore firefighters on Sunday night, September 28th were dispatched to a report of a house on fire at the corner of Broadway Drive and 93 Street in the Village of Sturtevant.

Arriving fire and police units initially found nothing, but then discovered a house on fire in the 9200 block of Carol Ann Drive.

First arriving fire units found smoke coming from a one story, wood frame, single- family residence.  An interior fire attack was initiated immediately, along with a coordinated search effort.

The fire was under control within about ten minutes of the arrival of the fire department

While fire attack was underway, a search of the house was conducted.  While no human occupants were found, a pet dog was found and removed from the house.  Efforts by firefighters to revive the dog were unsuccessful.

Fire units remained on the scene for over three hours overhauling the structure and investigating the cause of the fire.  The investigation is still underway, but the fire is not considered to be suspicious.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire may have been electrical in nature.

Damage is estimated at approximately $20,000.

The home was occupied, but the occupants were not home at the time of the fire

South Shore firefighters were assisted at the scene by members of the Sturtevant Police Department.
