Police: One dead, one injured following shooting near 95th & Brown Deer

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a homicide and shooting that occurred on the city's north side.

It happened near N. 95th and W. Brown Deer Road around 10:10 p.m. Thursday, October 9th.

According to police, a 33-year-old woman from Milwaukee suffered what is believed to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound.  She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say 22-year-old Itavian Belcher from Milwaukee was also shot at that same location.

After being shot, he ran to the 9400 Block of W. Brown Deer Rd. where he collapsed

Life saving efforts by the Milwaukee Fire Department were unsuccessful and he died from his injury.

Residents nearby are furious after Thursday night's shooting. A mother of two was struck, and a man's life was lost.

Video FOX6 News obtained from the gas station show some of the life saving efforts, but they weren't enough.

Shortly after the shooting, police and paramedics arrived on the scene, but it was too late -- Belcher died from his injury. Police say he was the suspect in a crime where a 30-year-old woman was shot.

"I have a houseful of blood, blood everywhere," said Dan Martin, victim's friend.

Bullet holes pierced through the home where the woman was staying.

"She was actually walking her cousin home, somebody asked her for a light and tried to rob her. They pulled out a gun, she ran and they shot her," said Brooke Walker, the victim's sister.

"I had her kids. I'm in the kitchen cooking, I hear 4 to 5 gun shots and I'm trying to make sure the kids are safe. I hear the rumbling, she runs inside and said please call 911," said Martin.

While calling for help, nearby residents took cover.

"I looked out the window and he was standing right there. He was just shooting like he had a mission, then he walked up out of here calmly, then he made it down the block but didn't make it off the block" said Martin.

The gunman didn't get far away before he himself was shot. Police say he was shot during another robbery attempt a short time later. He tried making his way to get help at the gas station where he died.

Meanwhile, folks on the block are hot:

"This was a good woman from what I knew, she didn't do anything to hurt anybody. She didn't deserve a bullet, our kids didn't deserve to see that. I'm outraged, everyone out here should be outraged," said Martin.

Fed up with gunfire, and crime that continues to occur.

"There's been 2 shootings in the past 2 weeks right by our apartment and it's scary," said a concerned neighbor, Sharon McCauley.

The woman was shot in the upper thigh, she is still in the hospital and is expected to be okay.

No suspects are in custody, and the investigation continues.
