Thousands of spiders infest Missouri home

(WITI) -- Exterminators in Missouri say they had to resort to extreme measures in one home. It was infested with thousands of poisonous spiders!

Crews covered the house with what looks like a giant circus tent, and pumped in poisonous gas.

A spider expert estimates up to 6,000 Brown Recluse spiders were living in the house. The coupe who lives there have sued the previous owners, saying they were never told about the spider problem.

The home, which has been uninhabitable and vacant for years, eventually went into foreclosure.

"You can move from a house that has Brown Recluse, they're in your stuff, they're in your boxes...you're bringing them with you. You buy things at an auction, a garage sale, you inherit furniture, you have furniture in storage, you bring it back to your house. Many times Brown Recluse are carried right into the house," said Exterminator, Tim McCarthy.

The venom in a Brown Recluse spider bite rarely turns fatal, but can lead to ulcers, nausea, and in rare cases coma and kidney failure.
