95-year-old "Torchy" receives new wheelchair ramp, and more!

OCONOMOWOC (WITI) -- The wait is over for a 95-year-old veteran in Oconomowoc. Friday, Ralph "Torchy" Dames got a new wheelchair ramp. It started when a neighbor tried to help him out, then FOX6 News got involved, that's when the offers to help came flooding in. FOX6 News was there when the ramp was completed. The 95-year-old says this has been a long time coming. His previous wheelchair ramp wasn't up to code. Now, the five month wait is over for a new one! Torchy's neighbor, Dan Britten, applied for a program back in May to get Torchy a ramp. The company selects veterans for free home repair projects, but there was a misunderstanding and it never happened. Now, Discount Ramps installed a new up-to-code ramp. Torchy has lived in the same house since he was 2! The ramp is just a small part of the total work now being done at Torchy's home. On top of Discount Ramps installing the ramp, Home Depot is offering to make additional repairs to Torchy's home. But the generosity doesn't end there, students from Oconomowoc High School's construction club are also volunteering to do interior work on the home. There has been a foundation set up for Torchy.
