Labor group suing Governor Walker to force the state to raise the minimum wage

MADISON (AP) — A labor group is suing Republican Gov. Scott Walker to force the state to raise the minimum wage from the current $7.25 per hour.

The lawsuit comes after the state labor department rejected complaints from about 100 workers who say the minimum wage is too low. Wisconsin law says the minimum wage "shall not be less than a living wage."

The lawsuit filed by Raise WI on the workers' behalf says the Department of Workforce Development didn't adequately consider the workers' complaints.

Walker says filing the lawsuit a week before the election is a political stunt. He says if the group was serious, it could have sued months or years ago.

Walker's opponent in the Nov. 4 election, Democrat Mary Burke, supports raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour.
