One dead after vehicle leaves the roadway in Walworth County; slamming into a tree

TOWN OF LYONS (WITI) -- Walworth County Sheriff's officials say a 45-year-old man was killed Monday morning, October 27th in a single-vehicle crash.

It happened just after 9:30 a.m. in the area of 5791 Highway 36 in the Town of Lyons.

Sheriff's officials have identified the driver as Taran Raczka of Burlington. He was initially taken to the hospital by ambulance, and he was then flown to Froedtert Hospital. Raczka's passenger, Jeffrey Bonsall of Delavan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's officials say their initial investigation has revealed that Raczka was headed eastbound on Highway 36 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. It is unknown why Raczka left the roadway.

Sheriff's officials say there are no indications Raczka hit the brakes before striking the tree.

Bonsall was trapped in the vehicle following the crash. An autopsy is planned for Tuesday to determine an exact cause of death.
