Earthquake forecasting technology: How accurate are the predictions?

Earthquakes, unlike other natural disasters, come without much warning. And when they strike, it can be devastating. Now, scientists are using the latest in crustal scanning technology to help create a system to inform us.

We can forecast bad weather like hurricanes and tornadoes, but earthquakes still come as a surprise. We’ve heard talk about an early warning system for years and scientists are making progress to help us when every second counts.

We spoke with NASA JPL Geophysicist Dr. Andrea Donnellan to get some insight into how technology is helping us stay safe.
