Milwaukee's VA Center honors and observes soldiers' sacrifice

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Veterans Day is meant to recognize our servicemen and women. At Milwaukee's VA Center, the day began as a proclamation -- to make sure all people honor and observe a soldier's sacrifice. "Honoring" is exactly what was happening inside the VA Chapel.

Featured guest Kim Michalowski of Fisher House Wisconsin gave credit to the country's youngest veterans.

"Entering the military knowing that we have been at war for the last 14 years need to be honored and need to be, in my mind revered because they are volunteering even though they know what they are going to do," said Michalowski.

Every branch of the military was recognized Tuesday. That included Bob and his "Army."

"We have a great country and those are the people that keep it great," said Bob.

The Korean War veteran was joined by his friend, Linda Stanger. She lamented that at times, veterans are not thanked enough.

"We forget the freedoms that we have, here in this country. We forget that everyone in the armed services, no matter where they are around the world, need to be honored," said Stanger.

Milwaukee's VA Medical Center services more than 6,200 veterans. Legion Post 416 presented the colors during Tuesday's ceremony.
