He won't seek re-election: Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas thanks community for support

WAUKESHA (WITI) – Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas has announced he will not see re-election in 2015.

Vrakas issued this statement to FOX6 News on Thursday, November 13th:

"After a great deal of consideration and reflection on what will be nearly 25 years in elected office this coming April, I have decided not to seek re-election as Waukesha County Executive.  I am eternally grateful to the people of Waukesha County for supporting me all these years and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to serve the County and the State that I love.

Waukesha County is fortunate to be home to many great communities, businesses, non-profit partners and public servants.  Thank you all for your support and your commitment to growing and improving Waukesha County.

Over the past nine years as County Executive, we have reduced the number of County departments, formed many regional partnerships with other governments and worked hard to find ways to save tax dollars.  Cooperation, consolidation and partnerships have been the cornerstones of our ability to keep Waukesha County the lowest spending per capita County in the State of Wisconsin, one of only a handful of counties in the country with a AAA/Aaa bond rating, and one of only a few counties statewide that have not levied a County sales tax.

I am proud of the work we have done together and know that Waukesha County will continue to lead the way."

Meanwhile, state Senator Paul Farrow (R-Pewaukee) has announced his candidacy to seek the position of Waukesha County Executive.

Farrow released the following statement to announce his intentions to serve as Waukesha County’s chief executive:

“First and foremost, I want to thank County Executive Vrakas for his years of service to our county and to the residents who call Waukesha County home.  He has been a true advocate for the county and his leadership and commitment will be greatly missed.  Personally, he is a great friend and I wish him the best as he moves on to the next chapter of his career.

After many discussions with my family, friends and colleagues, I have decided to seek the positon of Waukesha County Executive.  As a lifelong resident of Waukesha County, it would be a privilege to serve in that capacity.  I am extremely excited to begin this campaign and work toward earning the support of all Waukesha County residents.  I have not come to this decision lightly, but do so with great purpose and a desire to further serve my county and the public that makes Waukesha County the greatest place to live in Wisconsin.

Together, we have an opportunity to make Waukesha County the epicenter of economic strength in Wisconsin.  We have proven time and time again, that our pursuit of lower taxes, community involvement, and electing good stewards of the public trust helps build strong communities and a county that we are all proud of.  I look forward to continuing that tradition if I have the honor to serve as County Executive.”

Currently, Farrow serves as the state Senator from Wisconsin’s 33rd Senate District that encompasses a majority of Waukesha County.   He resides in Pewaukee with his wife, Amy, and their two sons.
