Building a stronger Milwaukee: Housing Resource Fair is making dreams a reality

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- With the level of foreclosures in Milwaukee at an all-time high, several city leaders are stepping up trying to make a difference.

With information at their fingertips, some city residents dreams are now tangible.

"I'm really looking to own my own home one day," said Cynthia Baker, fair attendee.

Baker just may have her own home, thanks to the 4th annual Housing Resource Fair. The event provided key information on home financing, home repair, and foreclosure prevention.

"We brought all the organizations and entities under one roof to do some workshops and have vendors table to talk to people and let them know what resources they might be qualified for," said Milele Coggs, Milwaukee Alderwoman.

Residents dealing with a myriad of challenges were able to seek the assistance they needed at the event.

"A lot of funds are available, assistance to the elderly," said Milwaukee Alderman, Russell Stamper.

Stamper urges folks to take advantage.

"There's programs from low-income to middle-income and to people who just overall can't get any funding because houses may be under water," said Stamper.

For some of the attendees at North Division High School, it was an opportunity of a lifetime.

"It's giving me a lot of hope," said Baker.
