Mother, two young children rescued from apartment balcony as firefighters battle two-alarm fire

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee firefighters rescued a family from a second-story balcony while fighting a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Lovers Lane Road on Wednesday night, December 3rd.

Firefighters were called out to the scene around 7:30 p.m. for a two-alarm fire.

They were able to rescue a woman and her two young children. They were taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, but they're expected to be okay.

"As I went around to the north side with the truck, we had fire blowing out of two windows. We immediately filled out the assignment to get more people here and actually called for a second alarm just due to the shear size of this building," MFD Battalion Chief Ray Groth said.

We're told most of the damage is restricted to one second-story unit, though the apartment below has water damage.

The American Red Cross was assisting at the scene.
