"The North Pole is out of our jurisdiction:" Boys learn a lesson after calling 911, looking for "Santa Claus"

MAYVILLE (WITI) -- They were hoping to get on Santa's "good" list, but what two Mayville children did had police paying them a visit!

When you see the look on these children's faces, it's hard to know whether they even regret what they did.

"When they get together, they are devils," the children's mother, Jennifer Becker said.

Christmas is fast approaching, and Blake and Brody wanted to make sure their gift list went straight to the top.

"I didn't realize my husband's phone was unlocked," Becker said.

"It was determined that a three-year-old and a six-year-old had dialed 911 and were attempting to contact Santa Claus," Mayville Police Officer Christopher MacNeill said.

These little boys wanted Santa on the phone.

"Trucks -- big trucks. One wants a dirt bike," Becker said.

What the boys got was police at their door!

"We didn't know what the situation was," Officer MacNeill said.

Ed McCann is in Mayville to decorate the Audobon Inn for Christmas.

"I remember my brother and I would sit with the Sears catalog and circle everything we wanted. 911 to Santa is a Christmas emergency, right?" McCann said.

A Christmas emergency...that Mayville police are prepared to handle.

"She came in and talked to the children about calling Santa and how Santa is only in person," Becker said.

Police released these little boys early, on good behavior.

"I think we got a laugh out of it! Glad there was no problem there," Officer MacNeill said.

The boys got a tour of the police station and some lasting advice from their new friends.

"One thing they have to understand is the North Pole is out of our jurisdiction -- so there is not much we can do with helping them connect with Santa Claus," Officer MacNeill said.
