Police increase patrols after man exposes himself to student in South Milwaukee

SOUTH MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Parents on alert in South Milwaukee!

The South Milwaukee School District sent parents a message on Thursday, December 11th after a stranger approached a middle school student.

School district officials say it happened around 7:00 a.m. near 15th and Rawson Thursday morning -- near the South Milwaukee Middle School.

"My teacher said there was a robocall call saying a person in a four-door white car tried to talk to the student earlier before school started today," said student, Ryan Conner.

According to a post on the district's website, a student was walking to school when a man driving near 15th and Rawson approached the student in a lewd and inappropriate manner. The student told school officials what happened and the district then sent an automated message to parents.

"I got the call early this afternoon. I was very pleased I was notified that something had happened in South Milwaukee," said parent, Kathleen Cholewinski.

Police say the man called out to the girl, who looked and saw the man was exposing himself. She ran away and police say the man did not follow her.

"Hopefully they can interview a lot of people, maybe get some witnesses, get some descriptions and once the police get a little bit of info, they can really go with it. I just want the kids to be very careful and walk in groups if you can. If not, just stay to yourself and don't go near any cars or anybody who's walking on the street," Ryan Conner's grandmother Janet Malinski said.

Police describe the suspect as a heavy-set white male. He had a dark buzz cut and looked to be about 40-years-old.

The car was described as a small, white, four-door sedan.

Police have increased patrols near the school.
