"Get swept away on a magical adventure:" Sneak peek look at Milwaukee Ballet's "The Nutcracker"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The fantasy of "The Nutcracker" is coming to life on stage at the Marcus Center.

"It doesn't matter what age you are, you just get swept away on a magical adventure," said Milwaukee Ballet Artistic Director Michael Pink.

But before the Milwaukee Ballet is opening the show to the public, they're performing dress rehearsals to hundreds of school children.

"They love it. There is really nothing quite like it because everything you do is the most amazing thing they've ever seen," said Milwaukee Ballet dancer Isaac Sharratt.

It's this magic that inspired many in the Milwaukee Ballet to take up this beautiful art form.

"You never know what it's going to inspire in you or your child. It's one of the reasons I started dancing," said Sharratt.

The children sit in awe as they watch the special effects, beautiful dancing, and the elaborate costumes which can make choreography tricky.

"It's a challenge to learn how to work in those, so we spend a lot of time practicing and working with the costumes. There are tricks to everything, but it's repetition," said Pink.

It takes an army of more than 200 people to make this production happen.

"We've got 140 children from the Milwaukee Ballet School in the production, we've got the Milwaukee Ballet orchestra playing live in the orchestra pit, Milwaukee Children's Choir singing, and then all of the dancers," said Pink.

All of this hard work continues to make "The Nutcracker" a timeless holiday tale.

The show runs December 13th - 27th at the Marcus Center.
