Super Saturday shoppers out and about as the countdown to Christmas is on

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Christmas is just five days away, but for those of you last minute shoppers, it seems like your procrastination could actually pay off.

They are making their lists and checking them twice. Shoppers were at JC Penney at Brookfield Square mall as doors opened.

"I'm kind of one of those last minute shoppers so I am just starting today," said Kathy Saunders, shopper.

Saunders isn't the only one getting a late start on their holiday shopping. It seems super Saturday is the day to scoop up bargains.

"We have pretty much the entire store on sale," said JC Penney Store Manager, Will Jaja.

Jaja says Super Saturday is actually JC Penney's biggest shopping day of the year. ShooperTrak estimates the day will ring in sales of $10 billion, surpassing Black Friday as the busiest shopping day of the year.

Surprisingly lines moved smoothly, but to avoid crowds, Saunders had a plan of attack.

"Getting in early and getting out early," Saunders said.

As buyers focus on wrapping up their shopping, Breanna Tuchell says she's reminded of what's really important this holiday.

"It's really important to learn, have limitations and understand that the holiday is not only about giving, but properly receiving and being thankful for what you have already," said Tuchell.

JC Penney will be open until midnight on Saturday, December 20th.

Brookfield Square mall will be open until 11 p.m. for the next few days before Christmas.

They both will welcome last minute shoppers until 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.
