Germantown, Wi — Longtime Germantown football coach Phil Datka died Tuesday morning at the age of 69.
Datka, who had endured eleven hours of heart surgery earlier this month, was able to spend some time at home with his family before he passed away.
Datka led Germantown to state football titles in 1988 and 2003; he spent 42 years there before retiring after the 2010 season. He was an assistant coach more recently at Brookfield Central and Germantown. Phil worked with at risk youngsters and sent former players, birthday, anniversary and Christmas cards.
