A tradition for many on New Year's Day: "Cool Fool" Kite Festival at Veterans Park!

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Mother Nature helped out with a popular New Year's Day activity in Milwaukee Thursday, January 1st.

There was plenty of wind for the "Cool Fool" Kite Festival!

The free event was held all day at Veterans Park.

Folks could bring a kite from home or purchase one at Veterans Park.

"It's just something different to do on New Year's Day. It's the beginning of the new year -- fly a kite, have a good time and drink hot chocolate that's free and eat some free snacks and just have fun," Scott Fischer said.

Besides flying kites, the Quiet Ice Carvers were also on hand working their magic on blocks of ice. They also provided some ice-carving lessons.
