"Out of love:" Man reportedly posts explanation on Facebook before killing his wife, then himself

NEW HAMPSHIRE (WITI) -- A husband and wife were found dead in a private hospital room in New Hampshire Tuesday, December 30th after the husband apparently outlined his plans on Facebook and then killed himself and his wife.

Dorcas Lavoie told The Associated Press her brother Mark shot his wife Katherine and himself "out of love." Mark Lavoie's wife was on life support at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire.

50-year-old Mark Lavoie explained himself in a message on his Facebook page.

The message read in part:

“I want to start off by saying this is going to be officially ruled a murder/suicide when in all actuality it is a double suicide. My baby was trying to escape the bipolar demons that have been swirling around in her brain since childhood and now because of my selfishness in dialing 911 she is experiencing the only thing she feared more than her illness -- life support on a respirator.”

PIX11 reports in the Facebook post, Lavoie gave instructions regarding what to do with his possessions and his 401(k). He asked that the funds in their bank accounts go to paying for funeral services, organ donation and cremation.

He asked that friends care for their pets.

Friends commented on the post, pleading with Lavoie not to follow through with his plans.

It is unclear why Katherine was hospitalized. Neighbors told the Boston Globe an ambulance came to the home on Monday, December 29th.

Police were called out to the hospital just after 6:00 a.m. Tuesday when a 911 call reported gunshots in a private room in the critical care unit.
