Mother, two young sons shot in southwestern Wisconsin; six-year-old boy was killed

MONTFORT (AP) — Authorities have released the names of a six-year-old boy who was killed and two other family members who were wounded in a shooting in the southwestern Wisconsin village of Montfort.

Grant County Sheriff Nate Dreckman said Saturday that Jaxon Slaight was killed and his mother, 27-year-old Morgan Slaight, and his eight-year-old brother, Joseph, are in critical but stable condition at UW Hospital. Police said they had no update Sunday, January 4th.

The Wisconsin State Journal http://bit.ly/1xqg2Fj ) reports Dreckman said all three were shot in the head with a .22-caliber pistol. He did not say who was responsible for the shootings, but said authorities are not seeking a suspect.

Authorities have not determined who owned the gun.

Deputies responded to the shooting Friday, January 2nd.

Monfort is a community of 700 people about 60 miles west of Madison.
