Students moved from Parkside School of the Arts after strong smell of exhaust detected at the school

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Public Schools on Monday, January 5th had to move students from the Parkside School for the Arts on S. Howell Avenue to Bay View Middle and High Schools after a strong smell of exhaust was detected at Parkside.

The Milwaukee Fire Department was called to the Parkside School for the Arts to investigate and a decision was made to move the students for the remainder of the school day.

According to a statement on Parkside's website, students who ride the bus will be dismissed at the school's usual dismissal time from Bay View.

An after-school camp will be held as scheduled at Bay View.

Parents with students in the after-school program are asked to pick up their students at the regularly-scheduled time from Bay View. Parents are asked to use the main entrance at 2751 S. Lenox.

Parents who need to pick up their children earlier than the regular dismissal time of 2:35 p.m. can do so at Bay View.

Parkside will be open to students and staff Tuesday morning -- and school officials say it will be business as usual.
