DISMISSED: Court throws out two restraining orders filed over horses in the cold in Kenosha County

KENOSHA COUNTY (WITI) -- A Kenosha County court has dismissed two restraining orders filed by the owner of some horses in Somers Township.

Earlier this month, when we saw dangerously cold temperatures, people complained to authorities after they saw two horses standing in the cold at Lisa Edwards' farm.

Kenosha County Sheriff's officials said they received "dozens" of calls from people believing the horses were being neglected. Sheriff's officials visited the stable on County Highway E/12th Street and 100th Avenue with a veterinarian, who checked over "Memphis" and "Star" and found the horses to be healthy and well taken care of. The were found to have protective blankets on them, proper food, a heated water trough, and shelter from the wind.

However, in spite of these findings, Sheriff’s officials say there were individuals who chose to trespass onto the property and attempt to feed the horses without the owner’s consent. It was believed this effort was largely organized by two people in particular who were using social media to perpetuate their beliefs that abuse was taking place. The owner of the horses, Lisa Edwards, received several threatening phone calls and sought temporary restraining orders against these two individuals.

The Global Conservation Group based out of Watertown claimed despite the assurances from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department that the horses were fine, they felt the horses were being mistreated. That group announced 24 hours after launching a petition drive, the horses were moved into a barn.

Now, we are learning restraining orders filed by Lisa Edwards have been denied. Court officials determined the confrontations were considered "isolated incidents" that wouldn't warrant legal action.
