Civil rights leader Vel Phillips honored for her work to build a better community in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Vel Phillips -- a civil rights leader in Milwaukee, and the first African-American woman to serve as Wisconsin's Secretary of State was honored Thursday evening, January 29th.
Phillips was recognized for her work to build a better community in Milwaukee.
The event at the Milwaukee Art Museum also featured a preview of a documentary about Phillips called "Vel Phillips: Dream Big Dreams."
The documentary premieres across the state on Wisconsin Public Television on February 16th.
