Truck leaves the roadway, slams into building at Valero Energy Corp. in Jefferson

JEFFERSON (WITI) -- An accident has occurred at the Valero Energy Corporation in Jefferson involving a vehicle that struck the administration building on the facility's grounds.

The Vice President of Communications for Valero Energy tells FOX6 News it happened shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29th.

We're told a tractor-trailer left the roadway and struck the administration building. The tractor-trailer's driver was not employed by Valero, and was not driving a Valero truck. The truck was traveling inside the grounds of the plant when it went off the road and struck the building.

No one was in the area of the building that was struck when it happened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The condition of the tractor-trailer's driver is unknown at this time.

According to its website, Valero sits on 344 acres and started ethanol production in January of 2008.

The Jefferson plant annually processes nearly 40 million bushels of corn into 110 million gallons of un-denatured ethanol and nearly 400,000 tons of high-value co-products including bran, germ and CO2. The bio-refinery has a nameplate capacity of 110 million gallons of ethanol per year and employs approximately 85 full-time personnel.
