(CNN) — Have you ever seen or heard a parent threatening to stop the car due to their kids arguing in the backseat? A Florida mother actually made good on that threat, and now, she’s facing child abuse charges.

“I thought, ‘Oh, my god. You gotta be kidding me,'” Lorena Sullivan Simpson said.

Simpson, of Port St. Lucie, Florida is facing felony charges.

Police say when she slammed on the brakes to get her children to stop arguing, her 12-year-old daughter, who was in the front seat and apparently not buckled up hit the windshield and cracked it.

“I didn’t on purpose or intentionally harm my daughter,” Simpson said.

Investigators say the 12-year-old complained of dizziness and a headache. Her mother says she had no idea anything was wrong until DCF officials and police showed up three days later.

“If she ever once complained to me and said ‘hey Mom, I think I have a headache.’ I’m heartbroken. My kids are gone,” Simpson said.

Simpson says the children are in Kentucky with their father as she faces child abuse charges.
