Xavier beats down Marquette 64-44

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Trevon Bluiett scored 14 points, Matt Stainbrook added 13 and six rebounds, and Xavier cruised to a 64-44 victory over Marquette on Tuesday night.  The loss was the worst in Big East history for the Golden Eagles.

J.P. Macura had 11 points off the bench and Myles Davis 10 for Xavier (16-9, 7-6 Big East). In the Musketeers 16 wins this season, they are outscoring opponents by an average of 18.2 points per game, and are 11-1 when holding foes below 70 points.

Both teams shot below 40 percent, but Xavier won the rebounding battle 40-29 and finished plus-11 in points at the free throw line.

Xavier led 28-25 at the break, and scored the first eight points of the second half to open a double digit lead. The Musketeers closed on an 8-1 stretch to push the lead to 20.

Duane Wilson led Marquette (11-13, 3-9) with 12 points. Marquette leading scorer Matt Carlino missed his second straight game with a concussion.
