Celebrating some expectant parents: Zoo in Madison hosts baby shower for orangutan couple

MADISON (WITI) -- Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate love, and on February 14th, the Henry Vilas Zoo showed a little love to an expecting orangutan couple.

The soon-to-be parents "Kawan" and "Datu" were treated to a baby shower -- complete with gifts that would make any orangutan happy.

Kawan and Datu had a chance to open some boxes and eat some treats.

The baby is expected to be born in six to eight weeks.

"We know the baby has a good heartbeat. When the baby is born, we know that most Bornean Orangutan babies are between two and three pounds. We have a nice big window of middle of March to the middle of April that we think we're expecting the baby and I expect Kawan to be a great mom," Henry Vilas Zookeeper Beth Peterson said.

Zoo officials say they will hold a similar event after the baby arrives and settles in.
