CHARGED: Milwaukee woman accused of trying to steal items from JC Penney in Racine

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- A 30-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged with felony retail theft in a case out of Racine County.

The exact charge filed against Porsha Thompson is felony retail theft (intentionally taking more than $500 to $5,000) as party to a crime.

The alleged incident occurred on January 23rd at the JC Penney store on Durand Avenue in Racine.

There, police spoke with Loss Prevention officers who stated they had detained a woman, but they were unable to detain the man she was with when the two tried to run from the area.

The woman was identified as Porsha Thompson. A criminal complaint indicates Thompson was unwilling to give up the name of the man she was with -- saying she had just met him on the bus.

Loss Prevention officers reported that while conducting video surveillance, they observed Thompson and the man concealing merchandise. They then attempted to exit the store without paying for the items.

Police say the man fled on foot as soon as Loss Prevention officers tried to stop him. Thompson fell, so officers were able to catch her.

Thompson was found to be in possession of 11 items with a value of $340. The man dropped a bag of items when he was fleeing, and seven items were found with a value of $318, police say.
