"Unbelievable. 17 years old at a .31." Girl accused of driving drunk, leading deputies on wild chase

HOWARD (WITI) -- A 17-year-old girl is accused of driving drunk and leading deputies on a wild chase in Brown County.

Police say the girl swerved into oncoming traffic, forced a semi to the edge of the road, drove up on a curb through snow and took out a mailbox.

She eventually stopped and she was arrested for OWI and fleeing an officer.

"Changing that culture takes time, and I think we're going down that right direction. But that's unbelievable. 17 years old at a .31. That obviously shows we've still got work to do," Brown County Sheriff's Captain Dan Sandberg said.

Four years ago, the Brown County Sheriff's Office set up an OWI Task Force aimed at lowering drunk driving arrests. It says alcohol-related fatalities are down.
