GUILTY: Deadbeat dad who "died in a car accident" reaches plea deal in child support case

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) -- You may remember John McCroy Jr. from FOX6 investigations into his failure to pay child support. McCroy told FOX6's Meghan Dwyer he couldn't pay because he "was in the hospital, and died in a car accident."

27-year-old John McCroy Jr. faces five felony counts of failure to support a child for 120 days-plus. The charges against him were filed in May of 2014.

In court on Thursday, February 19th, McCroy reached a plea deal in his case.

McCroy pleaded guilty to two of the charges filed against him. The remaining charges were dismissed.

He will be sentenced on March 24th.

A FOX6 Investigation found McCroy was supposed to pay $100 a month to support his little girl. He paid once -- back in 2010. Since then, he's apparently been busy posting selfies on Facebook and making music videos in his custom car. The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office said McCroy's posts on social media made it easier to hold him accountable.

McCroy told FOX6 News he got the money he shows off on social media selling mixtapes. He says his rap name is "Mr. JakItDown." McCroy admitted to FOX6 News he hasn't paid child support in five years, but he says there was a paperwork error.
