"I was ticked!" Man says a driver who fled the scene totaled his car in rush hour hit-and-run on I-94

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- One minute, he was stuck in traffic. The next, he was the victim of a hit-and-run crash. Now, he says he wants one thing -- for the hit-and-run driver to be brought to justice.

Todd Champeau says he was headed home from work when it happened.

"Just merging onto 94 from 41. I was stopped because it was rush hour. I hadn't been stopped for more than two, three seconds and the guy came barreling into me," Champeau said.

It happened last Thursday, February 19th on I-94.

"Looked in my rearview mirror, saw half of my car, half of his car," Champeau said.

Champeau tells FOX6 News the striking driver suggested they move out of traffic. While on the phone with 911, Champeau says that driver, driving a green car, zipped away -- heading out of sight, down Mitchell Boulevard.

"It took me a minute to realize exactly what happened. I was kind of stunned. I was ticked," Champeau said.

Champeau was injured, and his vehicle was totaled.

"The whole back end, pretty much torn off," Champeau said.

Champeau didn't get a license plate number, but says he remembers the car.

"It looked to me like an older Ford Contour, green," Champeau said.

He's hopeful that someone may know something that could help in this investigation.

"I just hope they find him. It makes you mad. It can't go on. Everybody assumes, 'oh, it's bad luck. They'll never find them.' The heck with that.  Why not at least try?" Champeau said.

FOX6 News is told DOT cameras weren't able to make out a license plate number.
