Medical College of Wisconsin needs your help for kidney research

WAUWATOSA (WITI) -- The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is recruiting volunteers for a clinical research study into kidney function and the link between premature birth and kidney disease.

People who are born prematurely are at higher risk of developing kidney disease and hypertension later in life. Kidneys in those individuals, particularly if they are born before 33 weeks gestation, have fewer building blocks than needed for healthy kidney function.

In this study, researchers will draw blood, take a urine sample, and perform a noninvasive ultrasound scan during a single, one-hour visit to Froedtert Hospital. The samples will be used to compare the size of the filtering unit in the kidney between adults born at full term and adults born prematurely.

Individuals between the ages of 14 and 30, born either prematurely or full-term, will be considered for the study. Compensation of $30 for travel will be provided.
