CHARGED: While out on bail, Sheboygan man accused of threatening man with a hatchet

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY (WITI) -- A 20-year-old Sheboygan man is charged -- accused of threatening another man with a hatchet.

Tanner Zimmerman faces the following charges for an alleged incident that occurred on Sunday, March 1st: disorderly conduct (domestic abuse, use of a dangerous weapon), resisting an officer, and misdemeanor bail jumping.

Plymouth police on Sunday were dispatched to a home on Caroline Street in the city of Plymouth around 10:30 p.m.

There, an officer observed a man holding Tanner Zimmerman down. That man appeared to be out of breath, and stated he was holding Zimmerman until police arrived.

The man spoke with police, and said Zimmerman's behavior had deteriorated throughout the afternoon. He said Zimmerman was making statements saying he wished he could use some drugs -- specifically cocaine.

The criminal complaint says Zimmerman continued to be more and more verbally abusive towards this man -- and the man eventually told Zimmerman that he had to leave.

Zimmerman apparently got upset when he was told that he had to leave, and he said he was going to "chop" the man in the head with a hatchet. Zimmerman is then accused of approaching a hatchet. The other man told police he put his foot on top of the hatchet, and Zimmerman got upset and began yelling.

A physical altercation ensued, and the men ended up in the computer room, where Zimmerman pulled out a knife, according to the complaint.

That's when the man pushed Zimmerman to the floor, where he held him until police arrived.

A knife was recovered by police in the computer room.

The complaint says there were more problems with Zimmerman once he was taken into custody. While waiting to transfer him, officers allowed Zimmerman to smoke, but he began blowing smoke into an officer's face. That officer then told Zimmerman he was no longer allowed to smoke -- something that apparently upset Zimmerman. Zimmerman stood up, and an officer pushed him back down into his chair. He's then accused of kicking an officer in the stomach area, which was protected by his bullet-proof vest, but it did push the officer on top of Zimmerman.

Zimmerman was placed on the ground, where he continued to struggle with officers. They eventually got him under control.

Zimmerman was out on bail at the time of this alleged crime. A condition of that bail was that he commit no further crimes.
