SENTENCED: Five years in prison for Beloit woman in methadone overdose death of one-year-old daughter

JANESVILLE (AP) — A Beloit woman has been sentenced to five years in prison in the methadone overdose death of her one-year-old daughter.

Tallie Strommen was accused of giving a piece of a methadone pill to her daughter to get her to sleep on Christmas night in 2013. The girl, K'Myah, was found dead the next day in a Janesville apartment.

Strommen initially was charged with first-degree reckless homicide, but she pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of child neglect causing death.

The Janesville Gazette (http://bit.ly/1BBhiHQ ) reports Strommen has denied giving the methadone to her daughter and admitted to leaving a pill in her coat pocket in the room where her children were sleeping.

Her mother, Tina Strommen, is accused of giving her the pills. She pleaded guilty last month to two counts of delivery of methadone.
