Man convicted of killing cellmate has previous victim's family worried "he will kill again"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A man convicted in a 2008 homicide is accused of killing his cellmate. Friday, the daughter of his first victim says she's worried he'll do it again.

The Milwaukee woman says Dexter Ewing is a dangerous man. After hearing he's accused of killing another person, brings back old agony and new anxiety.

"I'll never forget the day. It felt like the whole world just stopped," said Monica Harris.

Seven years ago, Monica Harris and her family changed forever.

Her mother, 55-year-old Jo Mosely, was murdered inside her home on Milwaukee's north side.

"He shot her five times in the face," said Harris.

A family friend, Dexter Ewing, was arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to life behind bars.

"There's not a day that don't go by that I don't miss my mom," said Harris.

For seven years, she's been trying to move forward. But earlier this week, she heard news shaking her to the core.

"I found out he has taken another human being's life," said Harris.

Ewing has now been charged in connection the death of his cellmate, 40-year-old Jerome Scott. He's accused of strangling inside their cell at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage.

"I was shaking in my toes, I was shaking," said Harris.

The most recent charges bring back old pain, and now new fears.

"There's no doubt in my mind that he will kill again," said Harris.

Harris is afraid Ewing might be transferred to the same prison as her brother in Boscobel. Now, she waits again for a judgement. Hopeful the law will provide the maximum punishment for a man that has caused her so much pain.

"This man is dangerous and he's not to be played with," said Harris.

While in prison, Ewing was convicted of another crime -- police were able to connect him to an armed robbery and felony murder that happened prior to Mosley's death.

Meantime, Harris has been speaking with the state, trying to prevent Ewing from getting placed in the same prison as her brother.
