Looking for a home? Milwaukee's Annual Homeownership Fair eases the process

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Becoming a homeowner may be easier than you think. Folks spent Saturday strolling around the Italian Conference Center at the annual City of Milwaukee Homeownership Fair.

"My husband and I are looking to buy our first home and we are trying to see what programs and grants they have," said Genesis Smith, looking to purchase home.

Genesis Smith and many others are thankful to have resources at their fingertips.

"We have folks from homeownership organizations that can tell you about the homeownership process and how it works, realtors, neighborhood groups," said Will Sebern, with Take Root Milwaukee.

Saturday, the City of Milwaukee along with Take Root Milwaukee, held its annual Homeownership Fair, a one-stop shop event for buying a home.

"There's a lot of great resources out there from starting off with some home ownership education," said Sebern.

In many cases, homeownership is more affordable than renting. These folks are getting sold on the idea that help is out there.

"People can learn about the home buying process and different mortgage options you qualify for a variety of resources there's the City of Milwaukee Strong Homebuyer Assistance program, a $20,000 forgivable loan to rehab city owned homes then all of the lenders and other groups offer different down payment assistance grants so it can help make that home purchase a little more affordable," said Sebern.

Dreams are now becoming a reality with this opportunity that helps build stronger neighborhoods and futures for families.
