Woman who pleaded no contest to practicing dentistry without a license sentenced

WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) -- A Waukesha woman who pleaded no contest to acting as a dentist was sentenced for her crime on Monday, March 9th. A Waukesha County judge sentenced Noemi Aguilera to 30 days Huber with standard release conditions plus $631 in fines.

Aguilera initially faced four charges, including child abuse (recklessly causing great harm), child abuse (recklessly causing harm), and two counts of practicing dentistry without a license. In the beginning of February, those charges were amended. Aguilera pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor practicing dentistry without a license charges — and the court found her guilty.

Prosecutors say Aguilera was doing dental work on her living room couch — seeing up to 10 patients a day. One of those was a 13-year-old who suffered pain and bleeding after getting braces from Aguilera.

An undercover officer made an appointment with Aguilera, pretending to have a daughter in need of braces. A criminal complaint says Aguilera told him the overall cost “would come to approximately $900, compared to the $5,000 or $6,000 that one would pay if going to a dentist.”

The officer says Aguilera admitted she did not have a license, but had worked as a dental assistant. The officer says she claimed to have been doing the work for six months, and used disinfectant soap to sterilize her equipment.
