Nik Wallenda to attempt his longest walk ever at 2015 Wisconsin State Fair

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- Thrills and chills await at this year’s fair as Nik Wallenda, The King of the High Wire, attempts his longest walk ever high above the Main Stage presented by Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. The 2015 Wisconsin State Fair, presented by US Cellular® opens Thursday Aug. 6 and runs through Sunday Aug. 16 at Wisconsin State Fair Park.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the fair will welcome world-famous acrobat and tightrope extraordinaire Nik Wallenda. Wallenda’s upcoming challenge will be walking more than 10 stories above the famous Milwaukee Mile racetrack for 1,560 feet – his longest walk ever attempted – on a wire no wider than a nickel.

As a seventh generation member of the Great Wallenda family—dating back to the Austro Hungarian Empire—Wallenda comes from a long line of daredevils. He began walking the high wire at only 2 years old and began performing professionally after turning 13. In 2001, Wallenda went on to set his first World Record in Japan for his four-layer, eight-person pyramid on a high wire.

In 2012, Wallenda set his seventh World Record while walking a wire across Niagara Falls. The event was televised with over 13 million people tuning in. Less than a year later he put the world back on the edge of their seats as he walked a wire across the Grand Canyon, securing an eighth Guinness World Record title.

Wallenda was most recently seen in November 2014 high above downtown Chicago, wire-walking between two skyscrapers. The stunt began at a startling 588 feet and rose to 671 feet, which Wallenda completed in just 20 minutes while being blindfolded for portion of the journey.

The nine-time World Record holder will begin his trek at 7 p.m. Reserved seating will be available in the grandstand for only $15.
