Sheboygan man accused of resisting officer, faces fifth drunk driving charge

Richard Brown

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- 41-year-old Richard Brown of Sheboygan faces his fifth drunk driving charge for an incident that allegedly happened on Sunday, March 8th. He also faces a misdemeanor resisting an officer charge.

According to the criminal complaint, a Sheboygan police officer was patrolling in the area near N. 10th St. and Geele Ave. around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday when "he heard a motorcycle revving its engine loudly." The officer stopped the motorcyclist and asked what his name was. After first, the rider identified himself as Curtis Brown. The officer told him to stay put. At that point, Brown began running from the officer. During a brief foot chase, the officer and Brown both fell on ice. Brown was eventually captured, arrested and eventually admitted his name was Richard Brown.

Brown was taken to Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a cut from the fall. The officer also noticed a "strong odor of alcohol" on Brown's breath. The complaint indicates Brown failed a sobriety test.

The complaint says Brown "has four prior convictions for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated." The first among those happened in June 2007 -- the most recent was in May 2013.

If convicted, Brown faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
