After winter's wrath, city workers fight back and begin repairing hundreds of potholes

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee street crews are trying to patch together a win. It's hard to do when Wisconsin winters are so hard on the roads.

Every spring, Steven Plevak's team is one of eight filling potholes throughout the City of Milwaukee. On Wednesday, March 11th, the team's focus was on Greenfield Ave. Workers have to be careful on roads like this -- since it's a very busy stretch.

"You've got to look before you start and listen, and also you've got to rely on your coworkers. Sometimes you can't hear a car coming and they will give you a heads up," said one worker.

Now that temperatures are picking up, the city can begin its work -- and they're getting pointers from residents. That's because the city's pothole phone line calls the shots.

"We like to average about three days on a response when a location comes into our call center," said Plevak.
