Dept. of Justice investigates 7th officer-involved shooting of 2015, this time in Kenosha



KENOSHA (WITI) -- Police are investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting that occurred at 21st Ave and 56th Street in Kenosha.

Police tape sections off a scene that stretches multiple blocks as officials document Wisconsin's latest officer-involved shooting.

The incident took place Saturday morning, March 14th, at approximately 9:32 a.m.

Kenosha Police Department was attempting to arrest a 26-year-old Kenosha man near 22nd Ave. and 56th Street who had an active felony warrant.

Authorities say when the suspect was confronted by police, he armed himself with a weapon. The officer fired his handgun, striking and killing the suspect.

"We heard some screaming sounded like somebody's yelling for help and then after that we heard about six shots fired and we ran outside and that`s when we heard that the police shot and killed somebody," said Gyasi Daniels, heard officer-involved shooting.

Daniels estimates that when he arrived outside there were about 15 police officers on scene. Daniels and his girlfriend weren't allowed back inside her apartment building while officials investigated the scene.

Police have not released the name of the victim or the officer involved in this shooting.

Police say the officer involved in the shooting was uninjured and will remain on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

No other injuries were reported in this incident.
