"It was crazy:" 3:00 a.m. wake-up call at the Economy Inn; Multiple gunshots as three shot & injured

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say three people had to be taken to the hospital following a shooting at the Economy Inn on W. Appleton Avenue.

It happened around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 22nd. Anyone sleeping near Room 122 got a loud wake-up call.

"It was bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. It was crazy. I didn't know what it was at first. I'm not from here, so it was kind of a new experience. Kind of crazy. It was definitely scary. Anything could have happened," a hotel tenant told FOX6 News.

The tenant says he was two doors down when someone started shooting.

"Next thing I knew, there were cops everywhere," the tenant said.

The victims are men -- ages 18, 23 and 25. They have not been identified.

They were taken to the hospital for treatment. It is believed they will survive.

By Sunday afternoon, new hotel tenants were learning what happened.

"I was happy I wasn't here last night because I was in and out of my room a lot, so I could have been caught in the crossfire and could have been hit. I'm going to stay in my room and stay out of trouble and I probably won't be coming back. You say something to the wrong person and things can get escalated and something could go wrong, so I just try to keep my distance and if I see someone mad or upset, I''ll walk away," a tenant said.

Police say four suspects are in custody -- and the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
