CHICAGO (WITI) — Prom season is quickly approaching for high school students. For girls, it means finding the perfect prom dress. Many teens are finding great deals online, but those low prices can come at a cost.

Fraudulent websites are popping up claiming to offer designer dresses at the fraction of the cost. When customers place an order, the item they receive is nothing like the pictures online. In addition, ordering from these websites makes credit card information vulnerable to identity theft because they're typically run by thieves.

If you're wondering whether or not you're ordering a dress from a fraudulent website look for these red flags:

  • No designer's name on the site
  • Operates outside the U.S.
  • Contact numbers and Customer Service next to impossible to locate
