Busted: 911 caller helps police arrest mom driving with kids in the car, after snorting pills

JACKSON (WITI) -- Police in Jackson say a 911 caller helped them bust a mother they say had snorted pills and was then seen driving erratically with her young children in her vehicle.

Police say a call to 911 came in shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28th. The caller reported an erratic driver headed towards Jackson on Sherman Road.

The caller followed the vehicle as it made various turns and an officer was able to intercept it on Clover Lane.

The vehicle was driven by a 32-year-old Jackson woman. Her 10-year-old son and four-year-old daughter were passengers.

The officer observed the woman's speech to be slow and slurred, her eyelids to be droopy and her pupils to be constricted.

The woman said she hadn't been drinking alcohol, but she told the officer she takes prescribed medications.

Police say orange pill residue was seen in the woman's nostril, indicating she had been snorting a controlled substance. However, the woman denied doing so for many years.

The woman failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for impaired driving.

Police say inside the woman's purse, they found prescription vials of Alprazolam (an anxiety medication), and the officer learned the woman had stolen the medication from her sister, and she had been snorting it.

Charges of operating while intoxicated (third offense) with passengers under the age of 16, and two counts of possession of controlled substances have been referred to the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
