Requests for capital improvements made at City Hall, MPD requests $24M for technology upgrades

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Requests for capital improvements were made Thursday, April 16th at City Hall. One request came from the Milwaukee Police Department -- looking for $24 million.

The money would be used for such things as upgrades to computers in squad cars, server and storage replacement and upgrades to radio technology for officers and dispatchers.

One member of the city's Capital Improvements Committee wasn't anxious to give MPD more money.

"Because of police misconduct, jury verdicts, judicial verdicts, settlements of litigation, I mean, just the $24 million in capital plus the contingent borrowing we have to take we're pushing $10 million this year in police misconduct," Alderman Bob Bauman said.

Any capital improvements approved by the committee will be sent on to the full Milwaukee Common Council for approval.
