"I look forward to this moment:" Folks at Milwaukee Yacht Club busy getting boats ready to launch

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- We saw temperatures in the 70s on Friday, April 17th, and that made for some excited boaters! After a long winter, at the Milwaukee Yacht Club this weekend, boaters were gearing up to hit the water.

Folks were up early Sunday morning, April 19th working hard at the Milwaukee Yacht Club.

"I look forward to this moment. It`s just wonderful to be out and to just enjoy the water," Tom Neubauer

It was a great weekend to get some boats into the water.

"People are coming out of the woodwork getting the itch to go sailing," Travis Oleszak with the Milwaukee Yacht Club said.

Tom Neubauer spent a lot of time preparing for this day -- even doing a little work at home.

"You do a lot of work and wash sails," Neubauer said.

The ice has melted and the water is ready, and that had a full crew at the Milwaukee Yacht Club this weekend -- getting boats in the water.

"Start of the new season. Here we go. Before a boat goes in, you typically wax the hull, clean the bottom, paint the bottom and then it goes in and it's ready for the season so algae doesn`t grow on the bottom," Oleszak said.

On Sunday, there were about 50 boats on the yard at the Milwaukee Yacht Club. In just a few weeks, they'll be cleared to make room for others to move in.

"All the boats here get launched, stay in the water for the season then trailered boats come in that race on Wednesday and Saturdays. We`ll have trailered boats in the yard that get launched every race, and then pulled out at the end of the race," Oleszak said.

Some are hoping to take their boats out as soon as this week.

"The boat will go in, I`ll dock it and get it ready and hopefully go out this week," Neubauer said.
