"It's been a long time coming:" Some Packers fans excited to learn Favre may be back on Thanksgiving

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The Green Bay Packers 2015 schedule was released on Tuesday evening, April 21st, and there is a lot of excitement over a Thanksgiving matchup with the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. The Packers haven't played a home game on Thanksgiving since 1923 -- and many fans on Tuesday were reacting to news Brett Favre could return to Lambeau Field on Turkey Day.

On Milwaukee's East Side, inside Koppa's Deli, it remains their best-selling sandwich -- the "Bread Favre."

"We have cajun chicken because he is from Mississippi. And then we have cheddar, because he played for the Green Bay Packers. We put the metal on the cover on it, to melt the cheese pretty quick," Sam Treichel said.

When it comes to Brett Favre the former Green Bay Packers football player, Sam Treichel says he's never been upset with Favre's decision to retire in March of 2008 and be reinstated in August of 2008. The Packers traded him to the Jets, where he played before signing with the Minnesota Vikings in August of 2009. He officially retired in January of 2011.

"He's Favre. When you love the sport, you don't just give it up. We basically kicked him out," Treichel said.

Treichel says he's happy to hear the Packers legend is back on the green & gold's menu with quite the special ingredient for his return. There are multiple reports out that the Packers will hold a retirement ceremony on Thanksgiving evening as the team takes on the rival Bears.

"It's been a long time coming, and I think it's time," a Packers fan said.

In downtown Milwaukee, #4 was a hot topic at Fore.

"Like many other fans, I had mixed feelings a few weeks back, but all along I thought it was a great idea," Eric Hafsoos said.

Eric Hafsoos has season tickets, and he thinks Favre coming back to Lambeau on Thanksgiving is a hole-in-one.

"I think it would be a great game. Something to remember for sure," Hafsoos said.

Fans looking to purchase tickets for the Thanksgiving game may be in luck! Ticket broker Mike Holzberger with Connections Ticket Service says he expects a large number of tickets on the market, which means prices will likely be lower.

"Thanksgiving is an inconvenient time for a lot of people. I think it being Thanksgiving night, it is not going to be that much more expensive than a regular Packers-Bears game," Holzberger said.

That's winning news for those who hold Favre close to their hearts.
