RACINE (WITI) — Racine police took a man into custody following a tactical situation Wednesday, April 22nd.

Officers were called to the 4500 block of 17th Street in reference to an intoxicated person who was threatening to harm himself. When officers arrived on scene, they were informed that the 54-year-old man had several weapons in the home, and that a family member had taken a weapon away from him earlier in the day.

The Crisis Negotiation Unit was activated, as well as SWAT.

Neighbors on the block were contacted and notified to stay in their homes as this situation was active and potentially dangerous.

Once SWAT and Crisis Negotiations were deployed, verbal contact was made with the subject. The 54 year old male surrendered without incident. He is being evaluated at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care.

The Racine Police Department would like to thank the citizens of that community for assisting us by following directions and keeping their families inside and safe during this incident.
