Spring is here, and it's time to clean up! Project Clean & Green runs through June 1st

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Winter is over, and it's time to make Milwaukee beautiful again! The city of Milwaukee's "Project Clean & Green" is in effect -- running through June 1st.

Project Clean & Green is a city-wide program designed to foster neighborhood pride and ownership through coordinated clean ups, street and alley sweeping, graffiti removal and neighborhood beautification activities sponsored by community organizations.

Collection crews will target one zone each week and collect extra items left at the collection point on the scheduled collection day.

Residents within the targeted zone can place unwanted furniture, mattresses, household items, up to two cubic yards of tree trimmings, and up to five tires at the garbage collection point (curb or alley) on their scheduled garbage collection day.

This is your opportunity to get rid of excess household debris at no cost!

"This is a great chance to clean out your attic, a great chance to clean out your basement or garage and the city wants to be a partner. By doing this ,it allows us to make sure that this refuse doesn't get piled up at times when we're not going to be around," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.

After your Project Clean & Green week, there will be a $50-$150 charge for all bulky pickup requests larger than one cubic yard (about the size of an easy chair).

Crews will not collect appliances, TVs, electronics, construction debris, paint, grass, yard waste or more than two cubic yard of tree trimmings. These items can be taken to a City Self Help site for proper disposal.

Household hazardous waste can be taken to 3879 W. Lincoln Avenue on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00p.m.

If your neighborhood wishes to schedule a group cleanup, please contact Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful at kgmb.org or (414) 272-5462 for clean-up bags, gloves, or to borrow a limited number of clean-up tools (rakes, shovels, brooms).
