Milwaukee officer shoots, wounds armed teenager near 26th and Nash



MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating an officer-involved shooting near 26th and Nash on the city's north side sending one person to the hospital.

The incident began when two uniformed Milwaukee police officers responded to an alert of a gunshot fired in the 2600 block of W. Nash Street.

Authorities say the officers stopped two suspects, 15 and 16-year-old males, in the 3700 block of N. 26th Street.

The 15-year-old suspect, armed with a semiautomatic handgun, was shot by one of the officers during the stop.

"There was a gun involved, our officer had to utilize a level of force, that sent someone from the community to the hospital," said President of the Milwaukee Police Association, Mike Crivello.

Police say the suspect then ran to the 3700 block of N. 25th Street where he was taken into custody with the handgun.

The suspect, who has an arrest record with the Milwaukee Police Department, was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he is currently in serious but stable condition.

Authorities say the second suspect was also arrested at the scene.

The officer involved in the shooting is 42 years old with 13 years of service. As a protocol, he has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. He was not injured during the confrontation.
