MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The family of Eric Benson, gunned down in 2013, is begging for answers as his killer has yet to be identified. Betty Benson says she's convinced the streets of Milwaukee conceal the answers to questions that consumer her: Who killed her son, and why?
"It's not complete. My life is...seems like a piece of me died right there," Betty Benson said.
Eric Benson was shot near 50th and Hope on August 2nd, 2013.
"I know somebody knows something. Somebody knows something that happened that night," Betty Benson said.
Betty Benson held a memorial walk near the Midtown Center at 60th and Capitol in Milwaukee Sunday, April 26th.
Brian Lee was with Eric Benson the night he was shot.
"Two bullets went through here," Lee said.
"When I got to the hospital I seen my baby laying up in a bed with six bullets in him," Betty Benson said.
Eric Benson died as a result of his injuries five days after he was shot. He was 25 years old. His killer has yet to be found.
"What for? Who would shoot Eric? He did nothing. He didn't hang out in no gangs. He didn't do anything. He was the son that, you know, you would give the world for," Betty Benson said.
Lee says he was in the process of trying to walk his young daughters into a home as Benson was shot. He didn't see the shooter.
"I would love for those that do have information to come forward because this is just unjust for everyone," Lee said.
Those who knew and loved Eric Benson hold a memorial march in his honor each year both on his birthday and on the day he was shot. They're hoping their continued presence in the community will move someone to speak out about his killer.
Eric Benson left behind a fiancee and a baby girl.
"She is a daddy's girl and still to this day, even though he's not here, all she talks about is her daddy," Benson's fiancee Symone Bankhead said.
Benson's family members say they have peace knowing he's in heaven, but still -- they want to know who took his life, and why.
"I have peace that he's in heaven, but I have no peace on this earth," Betty Benson said.
There is a $5,000 reward being offered for anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of Eric Benson's killer.
If you have information in this case, you're asked to call police.
